I thought I would give my blog a bit of an update as it’s been a while since I last posted. Everything is going well for me at the moment (I really don’t want to jinx anything!) my last few scans have been clear and my skin checks haven’t shown anything sinister. Back in February I attended the Melanoma Patient conference in Birmingham and it was so lovely to meet other melanoma patients and hear their inspiring stories. Dare I say it, but it feels like I’m in a good place!
As always, I have been using my experience to raise awareness about skin cancer. First of all there was a campaign to try to have graphic images put into tanning salons across the UK in an attempt to deter people from using them. I did a few radio interviews and spoke to several journalist who featured my story in their publications. Then came the news that there is currently a melanoma vaccine being trailed in the UK which could potentially give melanoma patients more treatment options and possibly more precious time with their loved ones. I was asked to speak live on the BBC News as a melanoma patient to discuss the melanoma Vaccine. It can be viewed here.
We recently also had World Book Day and I took this opportunity to get my sun safe book out there. I recorded myself reading my book and made it available for schools all over the world to listen to. I’ve had some lovely feedback and hopefully it’s educated children and their families all about sun safety. ☀️🕶️🧴👒
